First Aid Courses


All our first aid and treatment of injury courses are provided in conjunction with 1st4sport Coachwise Qualifications and has been developed in partnership with The Football Association’s Medical and Exercise Science Department, and FA Learning.

The courses are accredited and provided in conjunction with the Sheffield & Hallamshire County Football Association.

Basic Emergency First Aid Course

Syllabus:

  • Registration
  • Course Objectives
    - preserve life
    - limit effects
    - promote recovery
  • Approach to an incident (danger, help, bystanders)
  • Assessment of priorities (DRAB)
  • Checking responsiveness – shake and shout
  • Opening the airway – chin lift/ head tilt
  • Checking breathing – look/listen/feel
  • Checking for signs of life/ top to toe survey
  • Recovery position (for breathing casualty)
  • Chest compressions/ breathing for casualty
  • Control of bleeding (press and elevate)
  • Dressing of wounds
  • Minimising shock
  • Choking
  • Course summary

Course Duration: Three hours

Class Size: Groups 12 - 16 people

Practice: On sterilised resuscitation manikin(s)

Certificate in Emergency First Aid (FAS)

More about the FAS:

  • If you are an adult (over 16 years of age) with a sporting background or you are studying for a sports science or sports therapy qualification and want to learn more about first aid.
  • Although the FAS has been developed in partnership with The FA, it is a generic first aid qualification offering content appropriate to all sports.
  • The FAS is more than a standard first aid qualification, as it offers an introduction to injury prevention and management.
  • To achieve a vocational first aid qualification specific to the sporting environment that encompasses both theoretical understanding and practical applications of first aid.
  • If you are looking to achieve qualifications in related subjects such as sports therapy, sports massage or treatment of injury qualifications, the FAS can be used as a stepping-stone. These qualifications could lead you to employment as an assistant to a sports club physiotherapist.
  • Covering pitch side assessment of injuries
  • Diagnosing/ Basic treatments

Course Duration: 21 hours (15 classroom & 6 self study)
